Aquarium de Paris - Cineaqua

Paris, Île-de-France

The Aquarium de Paris – Cinéaqua is an aquarium under the Chaillot hill between the Trocadéro and the Seine in Paris, in the 16th arrondissement. It was built in 1867 under the name "Trocadéro aquarium" and was the first aquarium in the world. In its present form, it reopened in 2006. The visitor circuit extends over 3,500 m² underground. The aquarium houses 500 animal species of fish and invertebrates, and presents about 9,000 specimens excluding plants. The Polynesian tank has 600 corals. The great tank contains 30 sharks of four different species in 3 million litres of water. It is therefore the largest artificial tank in France. In total, 4 million litres of water are spread over 43 tanks and large aquariums, including the 500,000-litre Aquastudio, which presents an attraction with its 34 cm-thick window weighing 24 tonnes.
