La Tour Eiffel
The Eiffel Tower is a puddled-iron monument on the Champ-de-Mars, in Paris, on the banks of the Seine. It bears the name of the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company built it for the 1889 World's Fair. It was inaugurated on 31 March 1889, after a construction that lasted a little over two years.
The structure measures about 279 metres, and the tower reaches 330 metres with the television and radio antennas installed at its top; this last figure replaces the old value of 324 metres. It is assembled from more than eighteen thousand metal pieces.
First designed to be temporary, it was kept because it served as a support for antennas. It has become one of the symbols of Paris and France. Visitors can reach the floors and the top, from which you discover the city; part of the access is by lift, another by stairs.
