Musée national de la Marine

Paris, Île-de-France

The Musée national de la Marine comes from a collection offered to King Louis XV by Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau. The museum's permanent collection is displayed in the Passy wing of the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, but annexes are in Brest, Port-Louis, Rochefort and Toulon. The museum today treats all navies through its collections and temporary exhibitions. The Musée national de la Marine takes part in the national strategy for the sea and oceans by fitting into its first priority, called "investing in the future", which implies "educating and training for maritime trades" and "arousing in the French a passion for the sea".
