Tourbière de Yeun-Elez
The Yeun Elez is a vast area of peat bogs that occupies a large basin in the heart of the Monts d'Arrée, in the Finistère, over an area of about 1,500 hectares. The part in the commune of Brennilis corresponds to the Venec national nature reserve.
The centre of the basin was once filled with a moving peat called the Youdig, the "little porridge". Breton tradition placed one of the gates of Hell there, and it was told that a man and his team had been engulfed there. These legends give the place its character of wild desert.
You can discover it by several hiking circuits from Brasparts, Botmeur or Brennilis, which cross heaths and peat bogs and sometimes pass by neighbouring summits such as the Ménez Mikel, the Tuchenn Kador or the Roc'h Cléger.
