Sources de la Moselle
The Moselle rises on the western slope of the Ballon d'Alsace, at the Col de Bussang, in the Vosges, in the commune of Bussang. The altitude of the source is given as about 715 metres by the most common sources, and about 735 metres in a navigation brochure; the pass itself is at about 727 metres.
The river then goes down the valley towards the north-west and passes notably through Remiremont and Épinal. Upstream of Épinal, it receives on its right bank the Moselotte and the Vologne, two important tributaries. It continues towards Toul and Lorraine, then enters Germany and Luxembourg.
The Moselle is about 544 kilometres long, of which 313 in France, before joining the Rhine at Koblenz. The Col de Bussang is a crossing point between Lorraine and Alsace.
