Sainte-Agnès
You reach this village by the hairpins of a narrow road crossing a terraced landscape planted with olive trees and mimosas. This wonderfully sunny place offers old houses with round-tile roofs, cobbled lanes interspersed with vaults and craftsmen's shops.
In the church of Notre-Dame des Neiges, which dates from the sixteenth century and has a nave and side chapels, you discover religious paintings, old baptismal fonts and a gilded wooden tabernacle. After fifteen minutes' walk, you can reach the castle ruins at the top of a rugged wall of pink limestone. From there, you admire the magnificent panorama over the bay of Menton. Legend has it that the first inhabitants of Sainte-Agnès lodged in the caves of this cliff, where there was a chapel founded by a Roman princess converted to Christianity.
