Pujols-le-Haut

Lot-et-Garonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

An important stronghold and fief of heretics, destroyed during the Albigensian war then rebuilt, Pujols has crossed the troubles of history, from the Hundred Years' War to the Revolution, safeguarding a large part of its thirteenth-century architectural heritage.

Still partly surrounded by ramparts, the village opens through a passage under the bell tower of the former lordly chapel of Saint-Nicolas. On the square, facing the covered market built in the nineteenth century with materials from the old church of Saint-Jean, where the market is held, stand fine half-timbered houses. You can also admire old roofs, a well, two fortified gates and part of the castle. Do not miss visiting the church of Sainte-Foy decorated with fifteenth-century frescoes as well as the view from the restaurant terrace.
