Penne-d'Agenais

Lot-et-Garonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Penne-d'Agenais is a medieval village of the Lot-et-Garonne, perched on a rocky spur above the Lot valley, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. The cobbled lanes, half-timbered houses and remains of fortifications make it a picturesque ensemble. From the top, the view takes in the hillsides and the valley.

The village is above all recognisable by the white silhouette of the basilica of Notre-Dame de Peyragude, built in the late nineteenth century in a Romano-Byzantine style, with its domes. It is a place of pilgrimage. Penne-d'Agenais is visited in an hour or two, and combines well with Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Villeréal or Monflanquin.
