Plage Notre-Dame (Porquerolles)
Notre-Dame beach, on the island of Porquerolles off Hyères, is often cited among the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. Its very fine white sand, turquoise waters and backdrop of pines and maquis make a postcard setting. It lies on the east of the island, about thirty minutes' walk from the village.
The island is part of the Port-Cros national park. It is reached by boat from the Giens peninsula, then on foot or by bicycle, as cars are banned. The beach is very busy in summer: come early, bring water and food, and respect the nature protection rules.
