Phare de Gatteville
Built between 1829 and 1834, the Gatteville lighthouse is the second tallest lighthouse in France at 75 m high. Building this "stone candle" required 11,000 granite blocks representing 7,400 tonnes. After climbing a staircase of 365 steps lit by 52 windows, visitors can admire the magnificent panorama over the Val de Saire and the English Channel.
The Gatteville lighthouse, or Gatteville-Barfleur lighthouse, is at the Pointe de Barfleur, in the commune of Gatteville-le-Phare, in the Manche. It signals the strong currents of the Raz de Barfleur. The lighthouse and the semaphore are partly protected as historic monuments.
