Parc naturel régional du Haut Jura

Jura, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Haut-Jura regional nature park was created on 10 February 1986 and then grouped thirty-seven communes. The park grew to include one hundred and thirteen communes in 2005, and has 71,000 inhabitants in total. Today, 122 communes adhere to the new charter validated in April 2012. It covers an area of nearly 178,000 hectares across three départements: the Ain, the Doubs and the Jura. The park's headquarters is at Lajoux. Beyond administrative operations, the Maison du Parc is characterised by a "high environmental quality" (HQE) building that opens throughout the year to the public with several permanent and temporary exhibitions and with cultural or educational activities for school audiences. The "Maison du Parc" was built in 2004.
