Les Gorges de l'Abîme

Jura, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Abîme gorges are near the commune of Saint-Claude in the Jura département in the Franche-Comté region, at the foot of the Cirque de Vaucluse.

The Abîme torrent has carved narrow and spectacular gorges in the rock. In places, the torrent bed is cut by erosion into many giants' kettles. This torrent has several sources. The most impressive is the Trou de l'Abîme, a flooded shaft 45 m deep. Ladders, walkways and overhanging passages must be used to allow its discovery.
