Cascade de la Queue de Cheval
The Queue de Cheval waterfall is one of the most remarkable falls in the Haut-Jura, near Saint-Claude. Its name evokes the shape of the falling water, compared to a horse's tail. It drops a total height of about 60 m in two leaps, one of about 40 m, and flows into the Grosdar.
It is reached from the village of Chaumont, 3 km from Saint-Claude, by departmental road 304. A path of about a kilometre, taking 15 to 20 minutes' walk, leads to the foot of the fall, through the forest.
The site is in the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park. The waterfall is most beautiful in spring, when rains have swelled the torrent. Another fall, the Queue de l'Âne waterfall, lies nearby.
