Palais des ducs de Bourgogne

Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The palace of the Valois dukes is in the heart of the town. The ducal residence was rebuilt from 1365 by the dukes of the Valois dynasty. Philip the Bold built the Tour de Bar (1365). To Philip the Good we owe the ducal kitchens (1433) and the ducal residence (1448–1455), with its flamboyant façade and its great banqueting hall. The whole is dominated by the Tour Philippe le Bon (46 m high). The old palace of the Dukes of Burgundy houses one of the oldest museums in France. The architectural jewel bequeathed to posterity by generations of architects between the 14th and 18th centuries serves as a setting for a prestigious collection bringing together all styles and all forms of art since the 14th century.
