Paimpont et la forêt de Brocéliande
The Paimpont forest, in Ille-et-Vilaine, is the largest wooded massif in Brittany (about 7,000 hectares) and the remnant of the ancient forest of Brocéliande cited in medieval tales of the Arthurian cycle. It is associated with many legendary sites: the Barenton fountain, Merlin's tomb, the Valley of No Return and the Hotié de Viviane. The town of Paimpont grew around its abbey, founded in the seventh century and rebuilt in the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries, now a parish church on the edge of the pond. The forest, largely state-owned and private, is crossed by many hiking paths and also shelters several museums and art craftsmen's workshops.
