Château de Boutavent

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne

In 1376 the lords of Montfort returned to settle in their new fortress at Montfort. They left the castle of Boutavent, standing proudly on its rocky spur facing the forest of Brocéliande, which had been their refuge for nearly 200 years.

Abandoned, Boutavent gradually faded from memory. Six centuries later, the Montfort community of communes is working to restore this major medieval site of the Pays de Brocéliande, in the Ille-et-Vilaine.
