Château de Montmuran

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne

Founded by the lords of Tinténiac, probably in the eleventh century, and rebuilt in the fourteenth century, the château de Montmuran, which enjoys a magnificent perspective over the surrounding countryside, stands at the end of an avenue of honour. Access to the castle is by a fourteenth-century gatehouse, preceded by a drawbridge and framed by two large round machicolated towers. The chapel dates from the same period. The central main building erected in the seventeenth century offers a classical layout with its pavilion crowned by a pediment that testifies to a remodelling in the eighteenth century.
