L'Ortolo
The Ortolo, Urtolu in Corsican, winds through a landscape of scrubland and holm oaks before reaching the Mediterranean near Sartène, in the Corse-du-Sud.
Its bed, carved in pale granite polished by the current, forms a series of pools and small natural basins where the water takes on amber tints, more discreet than the turquoise of the island's southern rivers but just as good for swimming. Less busy than the main tourist sites of southern Corsica, this small coastal river offers a quiet break in a rocky setting typical of the Sartenais.
