Rocher de l'Oriu de Canni
In the hamlet of Canni, near Sotta in the Corse-du-Sud, stands an 'oriu', a huge granite rock hollowed out by the erosion of wind and sea spray, a process known as tafoni weathering. Its pointed roof and stone front make it look like a natural dwelling.
Used as a shelter since prehistoric times, it was converted in the 19th century into a real troglodyte house, with several rooms, an oven and a staircase leading upstairs. Considered one of the finest oriu in Corsica, it is now a private property closed to the public.
