Musée du Petit Palais
The Petit Palais museum is one of the great European museums of medieval art. It is labelled Musée de France and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The museum houses a unique set of paintings of the Middle Ages and the Italian Renaissance (more than three hundred Italian primitives), bringing together the Campana collection, an important holding of the Calvet museum (School of Avignon from the 13th to the 16th century) and medieval sculptures of the 12th to 16th century from Avignon and its surroundings. This ensemble is essential for understanding artistic creation in medieval and Renaissance Italy. It gives a panorama of Italian painting both through great names (Botticelli, Carpaccio) and through very many masters and workshops (on deposit from the Louvre) as well as a collection of medieval Provençal sculptures and paintings and Italian paintings (on deposit from the Fondation Calvet).
