Musée départemental Thomas-Dobrée
The Thomas-Dobrée departmental museum is in Nantes. Owned by the Loire-Atlantique Département, it reopened on 18 May 2024, after a closure going back to 2011. The Département devoted nearly 50 million euros to restructuring and renovating the three buildings on the site.
The work included the complete rehabilitation of the Dobrée palace, the renovation of the Manoir Jean V and the transformation of the Voltaire building. The neo-medieval palace hosts the permanent exhibitions, and the manor the temporary exhibitions.
The museum presents about 2,400 objects from a holding of about 130,000. The visit begins in the palace's basements with regional archaeology. The collections gathered by Thomas Dobrée, a shipowner's son and great collector, include notably Greek and Etruscan ceramics, an Egyptology section and objects linked to regional civilisation.
The place is for lovers of history, archaeology and art, as well as families.
