Les Machines de l'île

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire

Les Machines de l'île are an exhibition and entertainment space created by François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice; it is on the Île de Nantes, in France, on the site of former disused shipyards. Their creation was decided by the council of the Nantes Métropole urban community in 2004; they were inaugurated in 2007 and are managed by the local public company Le Voyage à Nantes under a public service delegation from Nantes Métropole. Les Machines de l'île lie at the crossroads of the "invented worlds" of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci and the industrial history of Nantes (Nantes Métropole tourist office). In October 2007, the International Tourism Fair awarded them its special jury prize, which rewards an innovative tourist facility.
