Musée d'Arts de Nantes
The Musée d'arts de Nantes brings together collections that run from ancient art to contemporary art, all forms of creation included, with more than 12,000 works. It reopened on 23 June 2017 after six years of closure and major works carried out by the architecture firm Stanton Williams.
The renovation added a new building devoted to contemporary art, the Cube. Exhibition areas increased by about 30% and the extension links the historic buildings of the Palais and the Chapelle de l'Oratoire to create a continuous route.
In 2023, the museum rearranged its permanent collections of ancient and nineteenth-century art. On the ground floor of the palace, ancient art welcomes nine new works; on the first floor, the nineteenth-century presentation was completely rethought, with notably Girodet's Portrait of Chateaubriand, lent by the Saint-Malo museum.
Artists presented include Georges de La Tour, Ingres, Max Ernst, Sonia Delaunay, Gaston Chaissac, Picasso, Fernand Léger, Kandinsky, Claude Cahun, Giuseppe Penone and Nan Goldin.
The museum is for all audiences, from art lovers to families.
