Musée de l'homme de Neandertal
The Neanderthal Man Museum is at La Chapelle-aux-Saints, in the Corrèze, on the site of a major prehistoric discovery. In 1908, the abbés Amédée and Jean Bouyssonie and their brother Paul uncovered there, in the Bouffia Bonneval cave, an almost complete Neanderthal skeleton, later sent to the Paris Museum to Marcellin Boule. A new museum, titled "Neandertal, the Man of La Chapelle-aux-Saints", opened in July 2025. Its immersive route, guided by audioguide and accessible from age four, goes from the discoverers' office of the early twentieth century to the present DNA laboratory, near the original cave. The museum retraces human evolution and Neanderthal life. It is open seasonally: it is best to check its opening periods.
