Château de Saint-Hilaire

Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château de Saint-Hilaire is at Curemonte, a village of character in the Corrèze, in the south of the Limousin. Built between the 13th and 18th centuries, it has been registered as a historic monument since 1991 and remains private property.

It shares a curtain wall with the Château des Plas: they can be told apart by their towers, round at Saint-Hilaire and square at Les Plas. Saint-Hilaire's rectangular residence is flanked by three machicolated towers. The first owners, the Saint-Hilaire family, gave way to the Aymard de Lostanges, whose lion appears on a 15th-century tower. In the 16th century the château passed to Gabriel de Cardaillac through his marriage to Anne de Plas. In the 20th century Colette de Jouvenel, daughter of the writer Colette, bought it. Visiting arrangements for the interior are not documented by a recent source.
