Lac de Bastani

The Lac de Bastani, at the foot of Punta Bacinello and facing Monte Renoso, is one of the highest lakes in Corsica, at 2,092 metres. Covering about four hectares and some 310 metres long, it lies in the catchment of the Fiumorbo river, in the commune of Ghisoni, in the Haute-Corse, in a cirque of high grassland and pale rocks.

It is reached by a mountain hike from the Ghisoni area, on paths crossing pozzines (high wet meadows) and sheepfolds. The site is magnificent in early summer, when the snowfields melt, and the morning light on the lake and Monte Renoso makes it a much-photographed spot. Take water, good shoes and warm clothing, even in summer.
