Lac d'Orédon
At an altitude of 1,849 metres, the Lac d'Orédon covers 46 hectares on the edge of the Néouvielle nature reserve, in the commune of Aragnouet, above Saint-Lary-Soulan. It is held back by a dam built between 1869 and 1884 to supply the Gers department through the Neste canal: it is the oldest dam in the Pyrenees. In 1917 an underground channel linked it to the Lac de l'Oule.
In 1922 a biological station was set up on its shores, attracting scientists who came to study the glacial lakes of the massif. The lake is the starting point for many hikes to the Aubert, Aumar and Cap de Long lakes. Its surroundings are part of the national nature reserve and the Néouvielle Natura 2000 site.
