La Roque-sur-Cèze
La Roque-sur-Cèze is a small medieval village of the Gard, built on a rocky peak, with about 170 inhabitants. It offers a splendid view of the Sautadet waterfalls, a site classified as a natural area, where the limestone rocks are about five million years old. The territory includes a Natura 2000 site called "the Cèze and its gorges".
A castle and a chapel overlook the village. Remains of ramparts are still visible. A narrow medieval bridge, listed as a historic monument, spans the river with its eleven arches. The walk to the Sautadet waterfalls is easy and pleasant, but beware: swimming there is dangerous, because of currents, and it is regulated.
