La Place Stanislas, trésor de l'Unesco

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est

Place Stanislas, Place de la Carrière and Place d'Alliance have been inscribed since 1983 as UNESCO World Heritage.

Entirely renovated, embellished and pedestrian, Place Stanislas is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world.

Neoclassical in style, this square dates from the time when the town was the capital of the dukes of Lorraine.

With its rococo fountains, its wrought-iron gates gilded with gold and the opulent buildings (including the town hall and the theatre) that frame it, the square forms "a fine example of eighteenth-century French architecture".
