La Maison du Camembert
La Maison du Camembert is in the town of Camembert, a village in the Orne near Vimoutiers, in the Pays d'Auge. The museum occupies a fully restored eighteenth-century farm.
It retraces the history of camembert, whose creation is dated 1791, and brings to life the world of Marie Harel, associated with the cheese's origin. The route presents the different types of making and places the product in the history of the Pays d'Auge. A presentation of the Norman cheese AOCs widens the discovery to the region's other cheeses.
The visit ends with a tasting. The site also has a shop, is accessible to people with reduced mobility and a picnic area is at the village entrance.
The museum operates seasonally, from spring to autumn. The most recent information found in search results concerns the 2023 season: it is therefore prudent to check opening periods before going.
