Rocher aux fossiles Vaudobin
The Vaudobin, between Trun and Argentan on the borders of Bailleul and Guêprei in the Orne, is a wild gorge cut into the Armorican sandstone of a high plateau.
The famous 'pas de bœufs' (ox hoofprints) can be seen here: two-lobed traces about 500 million years old, identified by geologists as the tracks of trilobites, Palaeozoic marine arthropods. The site, protected as a historic monument, is also known for the legend of the Calotte Rouge, a mysterious figure associated with a cave visible at the bottom of the valley.
