La grotte du Lazaret
The Lazaret cave is in Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, on the western slope of Mont Boron, opening onto a steep ledge 26 metres above sea level. It is a cavity 35 metres long and 4 to 14 metres wide, carved into Upper Jurassic limestone. Excavations have shown that it was used by Acheulean hunters.
The Lazaret cave is a Middle Palaeolithic prehistoric site at the foot of Mont Boron, south-east of Nice. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1963. The excavations were carried out by the Institut de Paléontologie Humaine.
