Grottes de St Cézaire

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The caves of Saint-Cézaire, at Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne in the Alpes-Maritimes, were discovered in 1890 on a farmer's land. Electric lighting was installed in 1926, and the cave is reported to be listed as a historic monument.

The guided tour covers about 200 metres, nearly 40 metres underground, and lasts forty to forty-five minutes. It reveals stalactites, stalagmites and draperies in chambers including the Drapery Room and the Fairy's Chamber. The pink and purple colouring of some columns makes the site original.

The temperature is stable, around 14 to 15 °C all year, with high humidity, so warm clothing and closed shoes are needed. A car park and wooded park adjoin the entrance, west of Grasse.
