Gorges du Loup
The Loup, a short coastal river of the Alpes-Maritimes, has carved over the millennia a set of deep limestone gorges in the hinterland between Grasse and Vence. Waterfalls, natural pools and giant's kettles punctuate its course, shaping a karst landscape typical of inland Provence.
Above this defile, the village of Gourdon clings to a sheer cliff overlooking the gorges by several hundred metres, offering an impressive panorama of the valley and, in clear weather, as far as the Mediterranean. Listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, it is one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the site.
Several paths lead down to the bottom of the gorges to approach the waterfalls and clear pools, while the road winding between Tourrettes-sur-Loup and Gourdon already offers, from the car, wide views over this deep landscape. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons for hiking in the area.
