Château de Gourdon
The Château de Gourdon overlooks the village of Gourdon, in the Alpes-Maritimes, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. A fortress in the 9th century, it became in the 12th, after being strengthened by the Counts of Provence, a stronghold reputed impregnable, on the border between the counties of Ventimiglia and Provence. The arcades and first floor were added in the 17th century.
From 1598 to 1905 it was the home of the Lombard family, Marquises of Montauroux. It now houses historical documents, paintings, furniture and weapons, in a setting that shows life in a seigneurial residence. From the terraces, the view stretches over the Loup gorges to the sea.
