La forteresse de Chinon

Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire

Overlooking the town, the fortress built by the count of Blois, Theobald I, evokes the time when the histories of France and England were intimately intertwined: the Court of Henry II Plantagenet and Eleanor of Aquitaine settled there in the twelfth century. Philip Augustus, victor over John Lackland, occupied the stronghold in 1205 and had a keep built there. In 1429, in the great hall of the residence, took place the historic meeting of Joan of Arc with the Dauphin, the future Charles VII.
