Dax
Dax is a French commune in the Landes département and the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the historic region of Gascony. It is a very popular spa town. On the coat of arms of the town of Dax appear a tower (representing the fortified town), a lion (symbol of Aquitaine) and the wavy sea (representation of the river Adour, the river port and the port activity very active until the nineteenth century), as well as the old medieval name of the town "ACQS", derived from Late Latin: "CIVITAS DE AQVIS". The motto is "Regia Semper" ("Always royal"), that of a free town, answerable only to royal authority, and thus freed from seigneurial tutelage. Dax has been renowned since the highest Antiquity for its hot waters, the origin of its spa tradition there being more than a thousand years old, then for Landes and Spanish bullfighting and, among other things, for rugby (the Union sportive dacquoise was created in 1904).
