Château de Gaujacq
The Château de Gaujacq is a 17th-century seigneurial residence built by a lieutenant general of Louis XIV's armies. In the commune of Gaujacq, in the Landes, it has been listed as a historic monument since 2002, with further registration in 2019. It is described as unique in Europe, built like an Italian palace.
Its architecture is original and unusual, arranged around a 'garden of delights' surrounded by an Italian-style gallery. The château and garden are seen on guided tours, in the peaceful setting of the Landes Adour. It makes an unusual stop on the road through the south-west, between Dax and Orthez.
