Château Thomas II

Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Château was originally only a simple dwelling, a hunting lodge built on land acquired in 1248 from the Priory of Le Bourget by Thomas II of Savoy, count of Flanders and Hainaut, count of Piedmont from 1244 to 1259. It is quadrilateral in shape with square towers. The castle keeps a military architecture but its security was ensured by the marsh that surrounds it, a drawbridge and a ditch. It was, for its time, the most comfortable castle in Savoy. The castle was listed as a Historic Monument in 1979.
