Château de Lucey
The château de Lucey overlooks the Rhône, on the edge of the Petit Bugey savoyard, in the commune of Lucey, in Savoie. This thirteenth-century fortified house, once called Loyssey or château de Boigne, occupies a site where Roman remains have been found.
The first known figure is Sigomon de La Forest, cited as early as 1223. The lordship became a barony in 1563, then a marquisate in 1654. Benoît de Boigne bought back the château in 1816–1817 and restored it in the nineteenth century. It is protected as heritage.
The château is today associated with a wine estate, the Domaine de Lucey, whose vines have been cultivated organically since 2013 and taken over by a new winemaker in 2022; you can discover the estate and taste the wines there. As no official visiting hours for the château were found, it is advisable to check with the estate.
