Château de Bourdeau

Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The château de Bourdeau, or château de Bordeau, is an old fourteenth-century fortified house, remodelled and restored in the nineteenth century, centre of the lordship of Bourdeau, raised to the rank of barony. It stands in the commune of Bourdeau, in Savoie, near Lac du Bourget. According to local sources, it is said to have been built in the eleventh century on the ruins of a Roman castrum, which would make it one of the oldest in Savoy.

The Seyssel family was its first known owner, until the sixteenth century, then there were other owners. Destroyed at the Revolution, it was then sold. The restored castle is discovered in a Savoyard countryside setting.
