Château du Théret

Creuse, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château du Théret, in the Creuse, was built in the 15th and 16th centuries; the east wing dates from the 17th century. It is entered through a pretty porch beside a round tower that was probably part of a drawbridge, which disappeared some fifty years ago.

The porch leads into a square courtyard with a magnificent fountain at its centre. Opposite stands the square stair tower, topped by a lantern and bearing the arms of the Seiglière family. On each side are the two wings, the eastern one built in the 17th century. Both wings are protected on the outside by two round towers, and two more round towers stand at the back of the central building.
