Château du Puy

Creuse, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château du Puy is an 18th-century manor at Tercillat, in the Creuse, on the borders of the Berry and the Marche. The site is mentioned as early as 1237. The building, dated 1789, was constructed with stones from the old feudal castle of Tercillat, a former Templar commandery destroyed during the Revolution. It belonged to several noble families, including the Beaufranchet family from 1816 and then the barons of Wildemberg.

The building is said to keep carved heads of Templar origin, a staircase and fireplaces from the old castle, as well as a medieval dovecote.

Open to the public and school groups since 1989, the estate offers visits of its performance halls, a traditional farmyard, the dovecote, a 17th-century house and a deer park, by appointment or during the Heritage Days. It is known for its costumed shows inspired by Perrault's tales and La Fontaine's fables, with a collection of some 3,000 costumes.
