Château de Chantemille
The enchantingly named Château de Chantemille, in the Creuse, charms all its visitors. From its rocky spur it overlooks the Creuse, crossed by a footbridge, and the pretty village with its scattered houses.
It is an example of the 15th-century castles of the Marche. Built in 1470, with two round towers flanking the rear façade and a square stair tower on the main façade, it has kept interesting remains of an older castle. A return wing was added in the early 16th century. The stronghold of Chantemille was founded in the 10th century, at the same time as the nearby abbey of Le Moutier-d'Ahun.
For the past ten years, consolidation and renovation work has been carried out inside and outside the château, which is on the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
