Château des Milandes

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

In the heart of the Black Périgord, the château des Milandes overlooks the Dordogne river. It was Lord François de Caumont who had this residence built in 1489 at the request of his wife, Claude de Cardaillac. To give the garden more relief, Mr and Mrs Henry de Labarre, new owners, planted more than 2,800 box trees to form a coherent ensemble of different beds: four beds at the castle entrance surrounding the famous magnolias of 1900, several beds in front of the main façade presenting more than 3,500 flowers around a fountain installed in 2007, a bed to the north where our birds of prey can flourish in show and finally more than 250 lavenders in front of the round tower at the north-east of the castle.
