Château de Vissec
The château de Vissec was redeveloped in the seventeenth century from a feudal building. The works concern a lordly residence of historic character that has the advantage of forming, through its interior layout, fittings and furniture (landing and partition doors, grand staircase, French-style ceilings, stucco fireplaces, wall paintings with decorative panels, hidden passages, enigmatic writings, etc.) a very interesting, particularly homogeneous seventeenth-century ensemble. Private property accessible but not visitable.
The château de Vissec is a medieval castle in the commune of the same name, in the Gard. It is mentioned as early as 1084. Its site may correspond to the location of the old Merovingian bishopric of Arisitum, cited by Gregory of Tours in his History of the Franks.
