Château de Villandraut
Villandraut forms, with the nearby château de Roquetaillade, one of the purest examples of castle architecture of the 1300s in Guyenne: the influence of the castles built by Edward III of England in Wales, itself marked by the original Philippian stamp, is manifest there. It has the immense advantage, compared with its neighbour, of not having been restored. But, beyond its military shell, the château de Villandraut is also a palace built for the pope (who hardly lived there more than three months...): a palace organised in three wings, with a perfection equivalent to that of Perpignan, roughly contemporary.
