Château de Malle
The château de Malle is a château and wine estate at Preignac, in the Gironde, straddling the Sauternes and Graves appellations; it is classed second growth in the 1855 classification. Jacques de Malle, president at the Bordeaux Parliament, had it built in the early seventeenth century. It stayed five generations in the Malle family before passing to the Lur-Saluces through marriage, then to other families. In 2024, Luc and Clémence Planty acquired it, are converting the vineyard to organic farming and are opening the estate to visitors.
The architecture mixes classicism and Renaissance influences: the court of honour is punctuated with pilasters and corner towers. The whole château has been listed as a historic monument since 1949.
The Italian-style gardens, of about six hectares, spread out terraces, basins and statues, and have been classified since 1943. Regular visits of the heritage and vineyard have been offered since 2025.
