Château de Saint-Alban
The castle of Saint-Alban, in a village on the foothills of the Margeride, could on its own tell part of the history of the Gévaudan. It is at Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole, in the Lozère, on the Via Podiensis, one of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.
Formerly owned by the barons of Apchier and then the barons of Molette de Morangiès, it has been used since 1824 as a psychiatric hospital. Listed as a historic monument in 1942, it has been restored and enhanced by the Lozère département since 1993, and now houses the town's tourist office and summer exhibitions.
