Château de Roquedols
2 km south of the village of Meyrueis, in the Lozère, in the heart of a fine state forest, the 15th- and 16th-century Château de Roquedols houses exhibitions and an information centre of the Cévennes National Park.
It consists of two rectangular buildings to the north and east, joined at right angles and flanked by three round towers cut off at roof level. A fourth, lower tower with a pepper-pot roof stands to the south-east, where the two walls enclosing the inner courtyard meet. The building is thus a quadrilateral 25 metres a side, flanked by four towers 6 to 8 metres across. The north and east wings form the main residence, while the south wing was an annex housing the old kitchens. On the west, a door preceded by a rounded flight of steps leads into the courtyard. The north façade has two floors of vaulted rooms; until 1885 the lowest was used as a sheepfold.
